Description

Springfield House is an early 19th-century house. It is constructed of stucco over brick, with a hipped slate roof. The house has a symmetrical three-bay plan arranged around a central stair hall, with a more recent addition to the right. The facade is two storeys high and features a plat band. The central doorcase has pilasters and an open pediment, and contains a six-panelled door with a semi-circular fanlight featuring curved glazing bars. Sash windows are set within stone sills. A wide modillion cornice runs along the top. Symmetrical chimney stacks rise from the fireplaces within the building's internal walls. The side elevation has two bays and sash windows. Rear fenestration has been altered. The building stands on the site of an earlier house, formerly known as Caulsess. Interior features include panelled window reveals, a staircase with turned balusters and a wreathed handrail, and drawn plaster cornices.
