Description
Christ Church is an Anglican parish church built between 1844 and 1846 by W. Hinton Campbell in the late Commissioners Gothic style. It is constructed of ashlar Bath stone with a roof made of tile and stone slate. The church features six bays and has a vestry on the south side of the nave. The exterior is adorned with simple lancet windows, including paired windows above the west door and three lancets at the east end, along with a western bellcote.
Inside, there is an open timber roof supported by arched brace collar trusses and ridge, with additional intermediate trusses. The east lancets have shafts. Notable interior features include a font, piscina, and aumbrey, as well as stained glass in the central east lancet created by T. Baillie. There is also a classical tablet monument dedicated to Rev. William Farley, created in 1866 by Wood of Bristol. Overall, Christ Church is a handsome building.
