Description
Fairview and The Laurels are two cottages that have been converted into a house. They date back to the 17th century and are timber framed with brick infill, although most of the exterior is now rendered. The cottages feature thatched roofs and brick stacks. The earlier range runs parallel to the street and consists of three bays, with a clunch stack in the center bay and later stacks at the right end. The second house is attached at a right angle towards the street, also comprising three bays, with a stack in the center bay. The bay closest to the road may be an addition. The facade has 20th-century windows and a raised dormer on the second house. The rear displays exposed framing with straight corner braces. The interior has been modernized, featuring a fireplace in the second house with a timber lintel and chamfered spine beams. This property was part of the Broad Town Charity estate established by Sarah, Duchess of Somerset, in 1686, as noted in historical deeds.
