Description
This description covers a group of six monuments located in the churchyard south of the chancel of the Church of St. Peter, dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. The monuments are arranged along a sarsen sett path.
To the north of the path, from west to east, the first monument is for Ralph Broome, dated 1768, made of limestone, featuring a fielded panel with recessed corner quarter balusters, a cavetto moulded base, and a table. Next is the monument for Francis Broome, who died in 1793, and his wife Susanna, who died in 1831. This monument has an outlined panel with similar quarter balusters and a moulded table. The third monument, dating from the 18th century, has an illegible inscription and features an oval panel on a foliaged field, with corner pilasters also decorated with foliage and a moulded table. The fourth monument is for Isaac Woodward, who died in 1835, and his wife Mary, who died in 1852. It includes two round incised panels, recessed corner balusters, and a moulded base and table.
To the south of the path, starting from the west, the first monument is for Willian ?, dated 1740, made of limestone, with a plain design, a chamfered plinth, and a moulded table. The final monument is for Richard Garlick, who died in 1779, also made of limestone, featuring decorative incised foliage, recessed corner balusters, and a moulded plinth and table.
