Description
Wigsey Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It is built of English garden wall bond brick with a stone plinth and has a 20th-century roof covering. The building features a three-unit baffle-entry plan, stands two storeys high, and includes a two-storey wing, a lean-to at the rear, and a 19th-century porch. The facade has three bays, with the first two bays showing signs of having been raised in height, while the third bay projects and shows no such signs. Each bay has a four-light casement window with a flat brick arch on the ground floor and either three or four-light casements on the first floor. There are two ridge chimney stacks and a Douglas-style porch from around 1880. The gable indicates a raised roofline. The rear wing appears to be a later addition but features a two-light ovolo-moulded timber mullion window from the 17th century. A cruck is concealed between the first and second units. The ground floor has stop-chamfered beams, while the house-part features ovolo-moulded beams, including a spere and a bressumer beam. The spere has a chamfered post with a stepped stop.
