Description
The lychgate at the Old Church of Saint Werburg is a notable structure built in memory of Charles Craven, who died on August 20th, 1887, as inscribed on one of its beams. It features a timber frame with a stone slate roof, which has a pitched design running transversely over a pair of gates. Each side is supported by two large posts and a horizontal member that forms the base of the eaves truss, complemented by curved struts. Between the two studs, there are turned balusters that resemble those found in the gates. The timbers are primarily joined with pegs and exhibit stop-chamfered edges with run-out stops. At the top of the roof, there is a cross finial.
