Description
22-26 High Street is a house and shop dating from the early 19th century. It features Flemish brickwork and a slate roof. The building has two storeys and three bays, arranged in a double range with a central entrance and a butcher's shop on the right, along with a long rear wing on the left. The original six-panelled door is accessed by three steps and has fanlights set in painted reveals. A flat canopy supported by cast iron brackets extends over the entrance. The shop window includes a recessed door on the right, flanked by panelled pilasters, and has a similar flat canopy on four cast iron brackets. There is a plat band, and the windows are sixteen-paned sashes, except for the twelve-paned window above the door. The elevation and roof are cranked to follow the line of the road, with the roof hipped at the return to the rear wing.
