Description

Netherby Cottage is a pair of early to mid-18th century houses, now combined into a single dwelling. The right-hand side is constructed of squared rubble, distinguished by unusual bands of triangular stones. It has a stone tile roof with coped gables and a north-end stack. The building is two storeys and has an attic. The first floor features a central three-light recessed mullion window with a cyma-moulded head, alongside a single, similarly styled light to the right. On the ground floor, a central plank door is set within a chamfered surround, with a recessed, cyma-moulded three-light window to the left and a matching two-light window to the right, all protected by a continuous hoodmould. The end walls incorporate a two-light attic window and first-floor recessed, cyma-moulded windows, with a hoodmould over the first-floor window. The left-hand side presents an ashlar front, masking a rubble stone north wall. It has an L-shaped layout, a coped east gable, and a roof hipped at the angle between wings. A large ridge stack is located on the rear wing. This side features a floor band, two flush, cyma-moulded three-light first-floor windows, and an altered ground floor with a door, a three-light window beneath a timber lintel, a bullseye window covered by a long timber lintel, and a two-light window. The north side possesses a three-light, flush, cyma-moulded upper window, a ground-floor door with an inserted window, and a long, twelve-pane window beneath a timber lintel. The east gable end features an attic two-light, recessed, ovolo-moulded window with a dripstone. A front room contains a large, Tudor-arched stone fireplace on the rear wall.
