Description
This is an early to mid-18th century building on West Street, originally facing South Street. It's two storeys and an attic, constructed with painted brick and a stone plinth. A moulded stone string course runs beneath the first-floor windows, and the corners have chamfered stone quoins. The roof is tiled, hipped to the north-east, and features two simple two-light dormers, along with a chimney at the south-west end.
The South Street facade presents a three-bay front with cross-glazed sash windows in segmental-headed surrounds featuring key blocks. The central doorway has a six-panel door, a false beaded wreathed fanlight with a shield design, and panelled reveals with segmental heads. The doorcase consists of reeded pilasters, double scroll-cut brackets, a reeded cornice, and a hood with a panelled soffit. Original brass scroll knockers and a wrought-iron footscraper are also present.
The West Street front has a single upper window, a sash window with glazing bars in a flush-moulded frame. The ground floor features an early 19th-century shop front, incorporating a window six panes wide by four high and a half-glazed door to the left, topped with a plain rectangular fanlight. The shop front has pilasters supporting a frieze and a thin, flat cornice on cut brackets; a remnant of the pilaster cap originally dividing the window remains.
