Description

The Market Hall is a town hall that was rebuilt in 1738, with a heavy clock tower added in 1889. It is two storeys high, constructed of brick on a stone plinth, featuring a first-floor string course and chamfered quoins. The building has a moulded stone cornice and a hipped roof covered with old tiles. There are six upper windows, which are four-pane sashes set within moulded stone architraves. Additionally, there are four similar windows and two six-panelled doors, all framed by stone architrave surrounds and topped with flat hoods that have panelled soffits supported by cut brackets. Fragments of the Town Jail are said to be incorporated at the back of the building.
