Description
The County Cross is a Grade II listed structure located in the Market Place. It dates back to before the 18th century and features a mix of architectural styles in stone. The octagonal base, which includes four seats, is likely medieval and is depicted in a drawing of Wilton from around 1568. Above this base, the square pillar may also be of medieval origin. The upper sections of the cross are probably from the 17th century and include a heavily sculpted block that may represent a cross or more likely a sundial, supported by corner cannon balls. Above this, there is a moulded base for a 17th-century godrooned vase that crowns the structure.
