Description

The building at 2 Kingsbury Square dates to approximately 1800. It is a two-story and attic structure built of painted brick, distinguished by a projecting plinth and a three-course band above the ground floor. A brick block cornice runs along the top. The front has three windows on the first floor, each with a six-pane sash window in a flush frame. The ground floor originally had two windows; the window to the left retains its original six-pane sash with a segmental head, while the window to the right was altered in the mid-20th century to a three-light casement. A central doorcase features narrow applied pilasters supporting an open board pediment with an applied cartouche. The door is six-panelled, with the upper two panels glazed and panelled reveals. The roof is tiled, with a half-hipped section to the right and two hipped dormers, each with a two-light casement. A Sun Fire Insurance Mark, 688559, is visible on the first floor, indicating the house was insured by Charles Chipps in 1799. A valley roof terminates in a double chimney. The rear of the building has four first-floor windows, each with segmental headed two-light casements. Internally, exposed beams are visible, and replica fireplaces from the 1780s are found in the front rooms.
