Group Of Three Monuments In The Churchyard, 4 Metres South Of Chancel, Church Of St Michael And All Angels

This description covers a group of three chest tombs located in the churchyard, 4 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St Michael and All Angels. These monuments date from the late 18th century and are made of limestone, featuring inscriptions oriented north to south and east to west.

The first tomb belongs to the Coster family and includes angle balusters and oval inscription panels on the sides and ends. The north side displays shallow relief putti and ringed drapery drops at the top corners, along with deep incised Roman lettering. The south side was collapsed at the time of the last survey in July 1986. It has a moulded base and a cyma recta moulded slab.

The second tomb is for the Goddard family, dated 1777. It is a plain rectangular chest with incised Roman lettering on the sides and a cyma recta moulded slab.

The third tomb is for the Clark family, dated 1799. It features angle balusters and shallow relief floral sprays at the corners of each side panel, with incised Roman lettering and a cyma recta moulded slab.
