Description
This listing describes a group of four chest tombs located in the churchyard, 1 to 5 meters south-west of the porch of the Church of St Mary, dating from the late 18th century and made of limestone.
The first tomb is unidentified and features floral angle pilasters with raised and fielded panels on either side, framed by floral drops. It has a complex moulded cornice and a cyma recta moulded slab.
The second tomb is also unidentified, showcasing floral angle pilasters, a raised and fielded panel on the north side, and an oval panel on the south. It includes a complex moulded cornice and a cyma recta moulded slab.
The third tomb belongs to the Stephens family and includes angle balusters, raised and fielded panelled pilasters, and a raised and fielded inscription panel on the north side with incised lettering. The south panel is blank and framed with rocaille decoration. It has a moulded plinth and cornice, along with a cyma recta moulded slab. At the time of resurvey in May 1986, the side panels were collapsing.
The fourth tomb is unidentified and features angle balusters with floral sprays framing the inscription panels, including one on the south side with egg and dart moulding. It has a moulded plinth, a fluted frieze, and a cyma recta moulded slab.
