Description

Two chest tombs located in the churchyard north of the north aisle of the Church of St Peter date from the 18th and early 19th centuries and are made of ashlar. The first tomb, a memorial to Mary Coleman from the early 18th century, features two raised plaques on each side and distinctive rusticated angle piers. The moulded capstone and coved frieze are badly eroded. The south side bears an inscription for Mary Coleman, who died in 1715, while the north side is inscribed for Henry Simkins. The second tomb, the Lessiter memorial from around 1800, has fluted baluster angles, a moulded cornice, and a fluted frieze with slab sides that include low-relief decoration between the plaques. The north inscription commemorates Ann Lessiter, who died in 1821.
