Description
Three chest tombs from the 18th century are located in the churchyard south of the south transept of the Church of St Mary.
The first tomb, dating to around 1700, features unusual heavy lyre-shaped ends, with a scrolled heart plaque on the west side and a shield on the east. It has carved winged cherub heads projecting from each side. The large oval plaque on the north side is flanked by crudely carved angels holding open books, while the two south plaques are adorned with drapery.
The second tomb, from the mid-18th century, is decorated with foliate scrolls on the angle and center piers, raised shaped plaques on each side, one at each end, and a moulded capstone. It includes an inscription to William, son of William.
The third tomb, also from the mid-18th century, has two large raised shield plaques on each side, with central and angle piers featuring fielded panels and rosettes, cartouches on the west side, and a moulded capstone.
