Description
The boundary wall and gate attached to No 1, The Grange, date from the 18th or 19th century. It is constructed of rubble with sandstone ashlar dressings and features some large quoin blocks, topped with stone coping. The wall runs approximately 12 meters and stands about 3 meters high, continuing flush with the front of No 1 and along the back edge of the pavement. On the far left, there is a wide opening featuring an elliptical arch with a keystone, though it lacks ashlar jambs. This opening contains a pair of painted plank doors beneath a plank tympanum. Off-centre to the right is another painted plank door situated under a large plain stone lintel. This structure is an important addition to The Grange and plays a visually significant role in maintaining the continuity of the street.
