Description

Kestrels is an early 18th-century house located in Easterton on Oak Lane. It features Flemish brickwork with raised stone quoins and dressings set on a malmstone plinth, topped with a stone tiled roof. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has an 'L'-shaped plan, consisting of five by two bays, with the front extended to the left by an additional two bays.

The central entrance has a six-panelled door that is fielded and has a moulded stone architrave, topped with a broken scrolled pediment supported by brackets. The stone plinth has an offset moulding. The windows are 12-pane sashes with raised moulded architraves and a flat frieze that meets a moulded plat band. A timber moulded eaves cornice runs along the top. The elevation facing the road includes three-light stone framed windows with arris beading, and similar windows can be found at the rear. The re-entrant angle of the plan is filled with a two-storey flat-roofed building that contains a rear door and kitchen. The roof is hipped, featuring two gabled dormers at the front and a central stack on the wing.

Inside, the main stair hall boasts a 17th-century staircase and a fine moulded plaster ceiling with an oval floral border and putti in the corners, along with a central rosette. There are also boldly moulded putti on the soffit of the stair. The main rooms to the left and right of the hall are adorned with moulded panelling and shutters.
