EASTERTON HIGH STREET (west side) The Royal Oak

Inn. C17. Greensand rubble with inserted timber framed section with brick noggings. Thatched roof. Single storey and attic, 3 bays. Entrance in C20 slated lean-to across front of bays 1 and 2. Various windows of C19 and C20. Bay 3, the original parlour, now lounge bar, raised to 2 storeys and attic by rebuild above ground floor with close stud frame, wavy corner braces and steep pitched gable. Stone gable end with major stack. Single storey continuation to right as storerooms with pantiled roof. Left gable partly rebuilt to insert stack. Two flush dormers to front, and 2 to rear. Rear extension to parlour bay of 1 bay, in brick, probably originally stables, now kitchen. Interior: Parlour has two parallel longitudinal beams with run-out chamfer stops and exposed scratch moulded joists. Timber fire lintel. (WILBR B90)
