Description

Townend Cottage is a house dating from the late 16th or early 17th century. It is timber-framed with wattle and daub infill, and features a one-bay cross wing constructed of whitewashed brick. The thatched roof incorporates a flush dormer window to the central upper chamber. The house comprises three bays plus a cross wing at the southern end; the northern bay contains the entrance, which is positioned behind the stack. The two central bays originally formed the hall. The front elevation displays timber framing with three panels in height, featuring ogee corner braces. A recessed entrance leads to a boarded door. The windows are timber-framed and paned. The cross wing slightly projects and is gabled, with similar windows set in segmental headed openings, and includes a blocked door. A lateral external stack is present. Internally, the hall bays exhibit moulded cross beams. A small outbuilding is attached at right angles to the rear.
