Description
Cliff Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th to early 17th century. It is timber framed with patterned brick noggings and has been partially rebuilt and covered in colourwashed pebbledash. The roof is stone tiled. The building is two storeys high and was originally designed in a 'T' plan, with the current entrance located in the stem of the 'T', leading to a through hallway. The cross wing to the right consists of two and a half bays. The entrance features a part-glazed door beneath a stone tiled pent roof, with a chamfered lintel and elaborate bar stops. Above the entrance, there is a canted 3-light oriel window on the first floor, which has ovolo mullions and head, and a billetted sill supported by an applied timber corbel. The corners of the building are reinforced with ogee corner braces. The cross wing on the north side has two storeys and an attic, with four panels high and corner braces, along with a gable stack. The left end of the farmhouse was rebuilt after a fire in the early 20th century. Inside, the sitting room in the cross wing features moulded bolection panelling.
