Description
This is a late 16th-century farmhouse located in All Canning's. The house is timber framed, with colourwashed brick noggings replacing the original wattle and daub infill. It has a thatched roof and an unusual ‘T’ shape, with a narrow central bay containing a lobby entry. To the right of the entrance is a parlour, and to the left a kitchen, with a further brewhouse or dairy positioned at the rear. Lean-to extensions are found in the re-entrant angles, and an outbuilding extends from the rear. The timber framing is arranged in three panels high, incorporating ogee corner braces. The right-hand bay was raised later to create two storeys and a gabled appearance. The windows are tripartite timber casements. A raised flush dormer is present on the left bay. The rear wing features a blocked original window now concealed behind an outshut under a roof extension, and another window positioned above a boarded front door. A Norwich Union firemark is affixed to the building.
Inside, a staircase is situated within the lobby, with access from the original kitchen. The parlour contains a chamfered chalkstone fireplace with a timber lintel. The jamb of the fireplace is scratched with the date 1593, and the lintel includes a cupboard. The kitchen displays a large square fireplace with a curing cupboard, a small ember hearth, and access to a former bread oven. A chamfered spine beam is visible, featuring double bar stops. A rear bay features an axial gable fireplace with a second oven, which would have projected at the rear, but is now blocked.
