Description
Number 23 on Devizes Road is a house that was originally three cottages, altered in the late 18th century. It is constructed from ironstone rubble with brick dressings and features a hipped thatched roof. The building has a ridge stack at the original north end and a rear wall stack for the main range. It is two storeys high and has an L-plan layout. The windows are casements with brick jambs and timber lintels, arranged in a two-window range to the left of the door and a one-window range to the right, which are original. In the 19th century, the house was extended to the north with a similar one-window range of paired casement windows, and brick quoins are present at the north-east angle. There are also two parallel rear wings. The house is marked on J. Powell's map from 1763.
