Description

No. 35 New Street is a late 18th-century building that stands two storeys high with an attic. It is constructed of white bricks and features a stone plinth, a stone band at the first-floor cill level, and a parapet with stone coping above the first-floor windows. The roof is covered with old tiles, and there are two dormer windows in the attic.

The front of the building originally had two arched recesses flanking a central door and window at the first-floor level, but the right-hand recess has been altered to create a garage door. There are two semi-circular three-light windows on either side of a small square central window at the first floor, with one three-light window to the left, a central door, and a modern garage door at the ground floor.

The central door is a six flush panelled door set back with flush panelled reveals. It has a moulded architrave that projects over panelled pilasters with moulded caps, a plain frieze with a moulded centre panel, and a small moulded cornice above a bay denticulated over the panel in the frieze, topped with a small moulded pediment.

This building is part of a group that includes Nos. 21 to 49 (odd), the School of Arts and Crafts, and Nos. 61, 63, and 67 to 75 (odd).
