Description
37 and 39 New Street are two cottages that were refronted in the 18th century, originally part of an earlier building. They stand two storeys tall with an attic and are constructed of red brick, with the ground floor partly stuccoed. A moulded cornice runs across the ground floor, and the cottages have a gable end roof covered with old tiles. There are two dormers and three 2-light casement windows, with a larger one at No 37, all featuring moulded frames and glazing bars. The ground floor has irregular windows, including two with moulded framed cambered recesses above them. The house doors have been modernised but retain early to mid-19th century pilaster surrounds, friezes, and cornices. To the left of the front door, there are four flush panels in a plain surround. These cottages are part of a group that includes Nos 21 to 49 (odd), the School of Arts and Crafts, and Nos 61, 63, and 67 to 75 (odd).
