Description

This milestone, located about 175 metres southwest of The Grosvenor Arms, dates from the 18th century. It is made of limestone and features a pitched top. The milestone has incised lettering that reads "SARUM / 16 / MILES / MERE / 7" with a bench mark positioned below the lettering. The road from Wilton to West Knoyle was turnpiked between 1760 and 1762.
