Description
Foster Lodge monument is a tombstone located in the churchyard of the Church of St Michael, approximately 4 meters south of the chancel. It was created in 1927 by the artist Eric Gill and is made of limestone. The tomb features a steeply ridged design with a ridge roll and low sides that have spaced round recesses. Each end of the tomb has a roundel, with a cross carved on the west side and an owl perched on a branch on the east side. The sloping sides are adorned with finely carved inscriptions commemorating Wynlaye Foster Lodge, who died in 1922, and Oliver Foster Lodge, a poet and son of Sir Oliver Lodge, whose inscription was added in 1955.
