Description

The Foster Monument, located at the south end of Merridale Cemetery in Wolverhampton, is a Grade II listed structure dedicated to Joseph Foster (who died in 1861), Elizabeth Foster (who died in 1869), and A.C.F. Gough (who died in 1892). Erected in the 1860s, the monument is made of ashlar and is inspired by the Choragic monument to Lysicrates. It features a round plinth set on three round steps adorned with laurel festoons. The monument is supported by six Ionic columns and includes an entablature and a dome that sits above an urn on the plinth, which also has inscription panels.
