Description
Graiseley Old Cottage and Old Villa are two houses that were part of a school in the 20th century and are now vacant as of 1990. The buildings possibly have a core dating back to the 15th century, with early 18th-century and later alterations and additions. They are constructed of brick and have a tiled roof with brick stacks. The structure is two storeys high and features a two-window range, along with a higher single-window early 18th-century range with coped gables on the left and a parallel rear range.
Most of the windows are segmental headed and include casements with Tudor-headed lights or iron opening casements. The ground floor has a combination of three-light and two-light windows to the left of the entrance, followed by a window with small-paned iron glazing and a three-light window to the right. The first floor has two-light windows. The entrance is marked by an open gabled porch and a flat arch leading to a plain door. There is an end stack on the left and a stack at the rear of the ridge on the right, which is shared with Graisley Old Hall.
The return and rear of the buildings are similar, with the entrance to the Old Villa located on the return of the rear range and a cross-axial stack. Inside, the room to the right features a chamfered beam and a large 17th-century fireplace with a bressummer, an ashlar back, and a crane. The first floor has wide floorboards and wide-boarded doors.
