Description

The Chapel of Royal Wolverhampton School, built between 1894 and 1895 by F.T. Beck, is a cruciform brick structure featuring blue brick diapering and ashlar dressings, topped with a slate roof. The design includes windows with Perpendicular tracery, coped gables, and embattled parapets. The chancel is supported by offset angle buttresses and features a five-light east window. The south organ loft has a canted angle and a lean-to roof, while the north vestry includes a square-headed four-light east window and a three-light north window, along with a west entrance. The transepts have ashlar quoins, with a four-light window to the north and a three-light square-headed window below two two-light windows to the south. The crossing lantern is adorned with traceried openings and an ogival cupola topped with a cross. The nave features three-light square-headed traceried windows with transoms between offset buttresses, and a four-light west window above the entrance, which has a three-centred head and paired doors. An octagonal turret is located to the south, and the south porch has a panelled parapet over the west entrance.

Inside, the chapel boasts collar trusses on ogival braces supporting the roof. The reredos displays a relief of the Last Supper, and the stalls have panelled fronts. The windows feature stained glass by C.E. Kempe, including two windows by Kempe and Tower, which are recognized as an important collection of Kempe's later work.
