Description
This fountain, located to the west of the Royal Wolverhampton School, was built in 1864 and is made of ashlar stone. It has an octagonal shape and features a basin with a plinth that rests on three steps. The corners of the fountain are adorned with scrolls, and there are relief panels that depict acts of charity, such as Feeding the Hungry and Clothing the Naked. On the western side, there is a polished granite panel that includes an inscription honoring the charity of Mary Rogers, who was the wife of one of the directors of the orphanage. The fountain also has a cornice with lettering that names the reliefs, eight ball finials, and a bowl supported by a baluster stem, which is decorated with lion masks around the rim. The top bowl is plain.
