Description
Christ Church Vicarage is a large house dating from the early 19th century, situated overlooking the town. The principal front of the house faces south. It is built of ashlar and comprises two storeys. The central section of the front projects forward, incorporating a large curved bow window that dominates the facade. A moulded cornice and parapet run along the top of the building, with a moulded string course marking the division between the floors. There are three sash windows on each floor of the bow, and a single window on each side section. Ground-floor windows on either side are recessed with a shallow rounded head. Originally, the windows would have had glazing bars, but these are now missing. A French window with double-glazed doors is centrally located on the ground floor. Decorative hoods above each window of the bow provide space for blinds. A large, one-story Victorian porch is positioned on the left side, featuring a cornice and parapet. A triangular pediment faces west and is supported by an entablature on floriated volutes that integrate with the architrave surround of the window below. The building is an important landmark on the hillside overlooking the town.
