Description
Peacock Cottages are two cottages dating from the 15th century, constructed from rendered cob and flint with a thatched roof. The buildings are single storey with an attic and consist of three bays, featuring a canted extension to the right that faces the main road (A338). Each cottage has boarded doors topped with thatched canopies. The cottages have 19th-century paned windows, some of which were replaced in the mid-20th century. Cottage No 1 has two flush dormers formed in 2-centred arches, while Cottage No 2 also has two flush dormers. The interior originally featured an open hall in the central bay with a two-storey solar bay to the left, now part of Cottage No 1. The structure includes five altered cruck couples, with the upper bay supported by collar and mounted purlins, and heavy floor joists. The apex of the trusses in Cottage No 2 is not visible.
