Description
The Grange is a house built around 1730, located on Gaters Lane in Winterbourne Dauntsey. It features blue vitrified brick headers with red brick dressings around the openings, which continue vertically. The building has end giant pilasters and a slate roof. It is three storeys high with five window bays, and there is a parallel rear block with gable stacks made of chalk faced with brick, which may be older than the main front.
The central entrance leads to a stair hall, flanked by reception rooms. To the right, there is a two-storey, two-bay extension built around 1850, made of flint with limestone quoins. The main entrance has a six-panelled door topped with a floating pediment supported by brackets. The windows include twelve-paned sashes with heavy glazing bars and gauged brick lintels featuring stone key blocks. Above the main entrance, there is a round-headed sash window with a turned arch on stone capitals. The building has moulded brick eaves and gable stacks, while the extension includes re-used sash windows and a hipped roof. The interior has not been seen but may be of interest, although it has been extensively renovated in the late 20th century.
