Description
This description covers a group of three chest tombs located in the churchyard about 12 meters southwest of the porch of the Church of St Michael. These monuments date from the early 19th century.
The first tomb is the Butler monument, made of pennant stone and featuring lyre ends. It has two plaques on the north side adorned with rococo decoration at the heads, commemorating R. Butler of Fowlswick, who died in 1805.
The second tomb is the T. Coller monument, constructed from ashlar stone. It has baluster angles, a moulded base, and a cornice, along with a raised oval plaque on a fluted background, decorated with a draped plant spray. Classical trophies are positioned on each side, and there is a rectangular plaque on the north side inscribed for Thomas Coller.
The third tomb is the J. Coller monument, also made of pennant stone with lyre ends. It features two north plaques with a low relief flaming wreathed trophy between them, and a single south plaque with a flaming urn in an oval panel on each side. This monument commemorates John Coller, who died in 1811.
