Description
Three chest tombs from the 18th century are located in the churchyard to the northeast of the chancel of the Church of St Michael.
The first tomb, known as the Mortimer tomb, is situated about 5 meters northeast of the chancel. It dates from the later part of the 18th century and features slim baluster angles, a moulded cap stone, and a rectangular plaque on the north side with an inscription dedicated to John Mortimer.
The second tomb is approximately 13 meters northeast of the chancel and is an unidentified monument from the early 18th century. It has a moulded cap stone, a guilloche-ornamented center, and angle piers with plaques that display low relief depressed-arched heads, keystones, and imposts.
The third tomb, also unidentified, is located about 17 meters northeast of the chancel and dates from the mid-18th century. It is notable for its unusual height and features a moulded cornice, a pulvinated frieze that is broken forward over a raised plaque on the south side framed in a rococo style. It also has fielded strips flanking the sides, baluster angles, a large fielded plaque on the north side, and fielded end plaques.
