4/172 Great Barn, 20m north-west of Axford Farmhouse

Barn. C16-C17. Weatherboarded timber framing with thatched roof, tiled at south end. 11 bays with aisles. Part upper floor in north bay, No 1. Former framed division between bays 2 and 3. New partition between 4 and 5. First floor in bay 11 to form mill adjoining leet from from River Kennet. Cart entrance in bays 6 and 10. Jowled posts with corner braces to ties and plates. Raking struts to high collars. 2 purlins, the lower tier windbraced over cart entrance.
