Description

Church Farm Cottages is a row of two cottages dating from the 15th and 18th centuries. The main range, built in the 18th century, is constructed of flint and brick with an extension made of chalk and flint, topped with a thatched roof. At the west end, there is a cross wing from the 15th century, which is timber framed and also thatched.

In the main range, the left cottage is two stories with two bays and features a central stack and a boarded door. It has a three-light casement window on the ground floor and leaded casements on the first floor, along with a plat band. The right cottage is built in header bond, also two bays, with a stair hall at the left end and a rear stack. The main stack is located in the extension to the right. The cottages were refurbished in 1984, which included the installation of a glazed door and two- and three-light wood casement windows.

Inside, the cottages feature chamfered spine beams and a sharply cambered fire beam with an oven in the gable stack. There are lean-to service rooms at the rear. The cross wing at the west end, now used as a store, is two stories with two bays and has heavy framing that is four panels high, complete with a girding beam and corner braces. Some of the infill is made of wattle and daub. The structure includes jowled posts, queen struts to a cambered collar, and a trenched single purlin, along with a central stack.
