Description

The corn barn located north of the Great Barn at Axford Farm dates from the 17th to 18th century. It features weatherboarding on a timber frame, with brick and flint walls at the base. The roof is thatched and the structure consists of five bays, with aisles that return at the ends as half bays. The posts are jowled and are bracketed to the ties and wall plates. The roof has canted struts supporting a single purlin. The aisles are separated by low brick walls that have sill plates carrying the main posts. The walls exhibit slender close studding, and there is a threshing floor located in the central bay.
