Description
The East Gate and lodges to Ramsbury Manor, dating from around 1680 and 1800, are constructed from ashlar limestone with slate roofs on the lodges. The wrought iron gates feature gilded javelins. The gate piers are panelled and adorned with Corinthian nook columns, festoons on the frieze, a consoled cornice, and crestings of lions supporting shields. In the 18th century, possibly by Robert Mitchell, Palladian rusticated flanking pedestrian arches were added, featuring wheel-headed gates and anthemion ironwork that supports lamps above. Beyond the gates, there are square terminal pavilions with a central guilloche band and 12-pane sash windows set within shallow recessed arches, an urn in the tympanum, and a blind balustrade below the window. The return features niches and blind attic windows, along with a central chimney decorated with patera.
