Description
This building is a barn located 70 meters east-north-east of Park Farmhouse, dating from the 16th century. It is timber framed and clad in tarred weatherboarding, topped with a half-hipped thatched roof. There is a corrugated iron lean-to addition against the west wall. The barn consists of 8 bays, with the original cart entrances likely positioned in the third bay from each end. The wall frame is mostly intact, featuring full-height oak studs and cranked arched-bracing. However, the framing in the three north-west bays has been removed, and most of the original braces to the tie beams are missing. The roof is notable for its two tiers of queen-posts, which are square with jowled heads. There are cranked arched braces to both sets of purlins and similar braces to the collars at the lower level only. This roof is a remarkably complete example of a rare type, which contributes to its designation as Grade II*.
