Description
The barn immediately southeast of Goodlands Farmhouse is a Grade II listed building from the 18th century. It features a timber frame that is clad in tarred weatherboards, resting on a red brick plinth. The roof is half-hipped and covered with corrugated iron. There are 20th-century brick additions, including a continuous lean-to along the west side. The frame consists of five irregular bays with a wide central cart entry. Many of the structural components are heavy and appear to be re-used from a house likely dating to the 16th century. Notable features include a stepped mid rail, straight primary braces, and arched tie beam braces. One cambered tie beam has long solid braces and a peg hole for a crown-post. The roof is constructed with clasp purlins, and the purlins are square in section. Many rafters display housings for collars, suggesting they are also re-used. Additionally, there is a 20th-century upper floor in some of the bays.
