Description

The walls and gateway enclosing the kitchen garden at Iford Manor date from the 18th century, with alterations and the insertion of the gateway occurring around 1905 by H. Peto. The walls are constructed of coursed rubble stone and feature flat coping. There are several blocked door and window openings facing the road, indicating that a cottage once stood on this site. The gateway facing the road includes 18th-century piers with fielded panels, a wooden flat lintel, and a planked door, topped with moulded coping that supports a life-size bronze statue of a reclining male figure. It is noted that a large house previously occupied the site of the kitchen garden, which was demolished in the early 19th century by the Rooke family.
