ST 85 NW WESTWOOD IFORD (north side)

6/238 Steps and lower terraces in garden at Iford Manor

GV II

Three flights of steps linked by terraces, ascending from courtyard at east end of Iford Manor (q.v.). Circa 1905 by H.A. Peto. Rubble stone terrace revetment walls with ashlar piers. Lowest flight of steps flanked by C18 square piers with fielded panels and moulded cappings with lead urns, flanking revetment walls with flat coping. Middle terrace has revetment walls with coping swept up to square plinths with lead urns, canted recess with C15 Italian wellhead. Upper terrace steps flanked by C13 Comacine Italian marble lions with plain columns surmounted by standing figures, rubble stone revetment walls with coping also framing steps.
