Description
Shaw House Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse built with Flemish brickwork and a slate roof. It has two storeys and cellars, featuring a double pile plan with a rear wing on the left that has been extended as outbuildings. The main entrance is through a central stair hall, with reception rooms at the front and a kitchen in the wing. The main elevation faces south and consists of three bays, with a central door set within a stone Tuscan portico. The windows are sashes with concealed boxes and gauged brick heads, with 16 panes on the first floor and 12 panes on the ground floor, which may have been added later. To the left, there is a bow end that has also been heightened to two storeys and is tile hung, a feature added in the early 20th century, with the tile hanging continuing along the wing. The roof is hipped with brick stacks. On the east side, there is scratched brickwork reading "I.S.1810," likely referring to James Stratton.
