Description

Common Fields Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse built with Flemish bond brickwork and a tiled roof. The building has three windows across its front and stands three storeys high, with an 'L' shaped plan that includes a two-storey rear wing. The openings are symmetrically arranged but are slightly off-centre to the left.

The front features a six-panel door that is glazed at the top, with a fielded centre and a flush bottom. The door has panelled reveals and a moulded surround, topped with a flat, projecting porch roof that has a moulded edge. On either side of the door are tripartite sash windows, which are adorned with Tuscan pilasters at the weight boxes and dentils along the top. Each window is topped with a flat rubbed brick arch and a stone keystone.

To the left of the front, there is a cambered brick arch over a cellar doorway, which is accessed by external steps. The first floor mirrors the arrangement of the ground floor, but has a narrower blind opening in the centre with a similar arch. The second floor also resembles the first, but features shallower casement windows instead of sash. The eaves at the front are boarded, while the rear has dentils. The roof is hipped with lead hips. A chimney on the left return slightly projects, while the chimney on the right has been cut down below the eaves.
