Description
Upper Studley Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1625. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and features a Roman tiled roof. The building is two stories high and has a three-bay layout in an L shape, with two bays extended by an additional bay used for agricultural purposes, which is also from the 17th century. There are gable stacks on the two-bay block, and the entrance door is located in the right bay. The ground floor has three-light stone mullioned windows with ovolo moulding, although these have been replaced with early 19th-century 18-pane sash windows. Relieving arches are present above the windows, and there is a mid-wall hollow moulded string course. Single light ovolo windows are found in the gables, while the rear windows have been blocked. There are recent extensions at the rear. Inside, the main rooms feature cross ceiling beams with barred run-out stops, and there are large blocked fireplaces. The staircase is located in the re-entrant angle, and the roof consists of five bays with double purlins.
