Description

This is a mid-18th century, three-story and attic house, later altered, located at 3-5 Church Walk. The building is constructed of brick, with occasional header courses, and Nos. 3 and 5 have been rendered. It has a double Roman tile roof, incorporating a dormer window with a half-hip to the right and a very large brick ridge chimney located right of centre. The windows are arranged in three ranges of irregularly spaced openings, some of which have been repositioned. No. 3 features plate glass sash windows on the second floor and a modern three-light casement window on the first floor. Nos. 4 and 5 have windows with glazing bars, with No. 4 having a single-hung sash window on the first floor. The ground floor has undistinguished shop fronts. A gable-lit attic is present to the left, and low, pantiled lean-to extensions are attached to the rear. The building forms part of a group with Nos. 2 and 7 Church Walk, St James's Parish Church, the listed tombs, the Old Vestry Rooms, and Nos. 46 to 48 Fore Street. Nos. 2 and 7 Church Walk are considered of local interest.
