Description

The Grove is a house dating from the 17th and early to mid-18th centuries, with later additions. It is constructed of brick with a tiled roof. Originally, the house featured a three-bay, gable-end facing the road, with a rear lean-to extension, which was further extended in the 20th century. The central bay, opposite the stack, now faces the garden and serves as the entrance. The front elevation is of 50mm brick and has timber casement windows. The road gable was rebuilt in the early to mid-18th century using a blue header bond brick pattern with a plat band. It features 12-pane sash windows with heavy glazing bars and gauged lintels; the upper floor windows are accentuated by moulded brick floating cornices. Some of the windows are 9-pane and horizontally sliding. Inside, the room at the road end is fully panelled, complete with a cornice and a fireplace surround, all dating to the 18th century. Elsewhere, the interior displays chamfered beams with stepped run-out stops.
