Description

Highclere House is a 17th-century house located in Shalbourne Village. It features a timber frame and brickwork, topped with a thatched roof. The building is single-storey with an attic and has three bays arranged in a lobby entry plan. There is a boarded door situated opposite the stack between bays one and two. Bay one has been rebuilt or refaced in 18th-century diaper brick with a plat band. The heavy framing includes corner braces on the upper floor of bays two and three, with brickwork below. The house has two-light timber casement windows with segmental heads on the ground floor. The thatched roof is half-hipped on the right and extends low over a lean-to on the left, which contains a bathroom at the rear.
